GREAT NEW NEWFY ADDITION TO MY NEWF DESIGNS:
having a ton of fun, I LOVE to do new designs! On a rainy day, what better way to spend the time!
A HILARIOUS teeshirt, great big giant slobbery goobery messy neopolitan mastiff with the sign “WARNING: SLOBBER ZONE!” what a great idea for a wonderful doggy gift for someone who owns this adorable funny and goobery dog breed with the wrinkles. Or how about the one that says “REAL DOGS HAVE WRINKLES” , that one’s a hoot too!

My fiance & I are moving in to a house with a set of stairs, and we will be getting a great dane puppy and a boxer puppy, but I was concerned if going up and down stairs would be harmful for the large breed puppies (causing hip dysplacia), or if it's difficult for them to go up and down when they are at full size? (When I think about it, I have never seen a great dane go up or down stairs) anyone own big dogs, and live in a house with stairs? What's your opinion?
I have a rott/choc lab mix (Bosco) and a pitbull. (Dosia) Bosco is 4 yrs old and already has hip problems. Dosia is 3, and luckily, has no problems. We have hardwood floors and stairs…Bosco has attempted the stairs a couple of times, but his back legs go out from under him easily, so he gave up. Dosia is more clumsy than anything, he can manage the stairs fairly easily, but due in part to his size, it can be a little tricky coming down. We prefer they don't go upstairs anyways, so on the occasions they seem to be determined to go, we put up a baby gate. Hip displaysia is genetic, occuring in most large breed dogs. You can start giving your puppy chondroitin and glucosamine, which can help with his joints. (we give our dogs treats that have it in them, but you can also buy it in pill form) Since Bosco has trouble with his hips, especially trying to scratch (usually at his collar) on the hardwood floors, we got him a little rug that he goes and sits on when he needs extra traction.
Personally, I don't think it really hurts them to climb stairs, but it does put extra strain on their joints, especially as they get older and heavier.
I want to add to my German Shepard and Tabby cat home. My German is High Energy, so I want a breed that is more laid back and good with people/other animals. But I want to stick with a large dog, no yappers!! Sorry, personal choice!
well as long as you dont get puppies you should be fine with any kind i got a german sheapard that was 2 years old and she was a very laid back dog. you could go with a bloode hound they are very good animals that are laid back and dont bark hardly ever
There are alot of large dog breeds out there that I don't even know about. My favorite large dog is an Irish Wolf Hound. Does anyone know any other large dog breeds? Please put in pictures as well.
English Mastiff, it's my favorite.
im thinking about getting a medium/large dog breed i realize that large breed have their own needs just like every dog do but i think i cna handle it my dad was a newfoundland, sait bernard dog breeder for 10 years so he has experience iwth large dogs i thinking about new dog cuz my dog wa poisoned a week ago and i need to recover somehow but im not sure if i ready for new dog
i wa thinking about "mountain dogs" like greater swiss or bernese but i have no idea about those dogs ive read a lot aabout them from dogbreedinfo.compuppydogweb.com akc.org
or what are ur suggestions ??
thx a lot i appreciate it
im not worry about the room and exercise we have our own house and a very large garden so he/she will have plenty of exersice
Bernese are good dogs. They're goofy - really lovable clowns. If you know St. Bernards and Newfoundlands, you'll probably like Bernese and Great Swiss Mountain Dogs as well.
I looked at previous questions that were similar to mine but no one was able to come up with any other than doberman, pitbull etc. But they still shed. I realize that all dogs shed to some extent but I want something like a standard poodle but with short hair that doesn’t need to be cut. Is there any breed or cross breed with these qualities that exists.I know most breeds that don’t shed have continously growing hair but not all do but they are only small sized dogs.Anyone know of a large breed??????
I am wanting something like a rough coated brussels griffon or patterdale terrier when it's bred to a smooth coated brussels griffon or patterdale terrier. The result is a broken coat that is usually mostly short hair and it doesn't shed. But I want a large dog. Any ideas? Thanks for the answers so far but boxers, bulldogs and especially mastiffs all shed quite a bit. Standard poodle is cute but I don't want to have to take it to the groomers to be shaved and don't want a long haired dog. Any broken coat large breeds???
So I assume you want a dog that has short hair and requires no grooming because you want an easy to care for dog that isn’t smelly and doesn’t shed. Large dogs that don’t shed are few and far between. But the Pharaoh Hound may be of interest to you. They have extremely fine, short hair and even when they are wet they emit no doggy odor. They shed but very, very minimally and I don’t think it would be a problem to even excessively clean people. They do require lots of exercise and are not always great off leash dogs but they are very unique. If you must have a hypo-allergenic dog go for the poodle but you will need to groom it however thi is one of the few large breeds that really wont bug your allergies. You may also consider poodle hybrids, great danes, and greyhounds. Salukis and irish wolfhounds have medium coats that don’t require much care and they don’t shed much either but my advice is to go with the Pharaoh Hound.
