what are some good small dog breeds?

i have the yorkie and possibly the maltese. any suggestions?

What is the quietest dog of the toy breeds (small dogs)?

I am getting a new puppy soon and I'm torn between a few different breeds. I want a dog under 10 lbs that is relatively quiet (not a big yapper). I know it's hard to find in a toy breeds. Give me some ideas on some great dogs that would do ideally in an apartment, by themself while I'm at work for a few hours and will not bother the neighbors with loud barking constantly while I'm away.

There is a dog that physically can't really bark…supposedly,it can make noise,but not bark.I've never heard it before,but it may be worth checking out.it's called a basenji,but i'm not sure how available they are.It's not a toy breed,it's a hound dog,but it doesn't get taller than 17" according to the breed standard.Check this out:

My mom wants a small dog. But she doesn't like Chihuawa's, pugs, poodles, pomeranians, or yorkies. She just wants something really small, kind of like a dog that would fit in a purse.
She hates dogs that yip and bark all the time.
We don't WANT to put our dog in a purse, we just want the kind of dog that would be really small.

I have a papillon, they are really small about 5-6 pounds. They can bark, but if you squirt the dog with water it'll stop barkiing. They are soo cute when you give them a bath, not that they aren't any way.Go to papillonpups.com for some pics. They are SOOOOOOO cute and nice. if u are sittin down, they just sit down on you. My mom wants to get a dog, a small one though. We hear that its much easier to train mixed bred dogs and they are cheaper too. Do you know of any good breeds?

I have a two year old chi-russel (chihuahua jack russell). She is 10 pounds and extremely smart, loveable and friendly. She does tricks. She has most of the jack russell traits. A little on the hyper side, but we take her for walks and let her play outside. Actually she hunts for lizards. We call her the Lizard Hunter. She does well with children. She is white with a brown spot on her back and ears. She has a brown circle around one eye. Anyway, I would suggest a chi-russell =0)

I would like to own a small puppy or toy breed –no chihauhaus, please.

Look up and research what a "toy breed" is. It is simply a premature puppy that can have a lifetime of serious health issues. They are also extremely fragile. The best place to buy any dog is a breeder. It is half of what you would pay at a pet store. The VERY BEST place, is an animal rescue center.
